Résumés
factuels des cinq pièces de Sarah Kane
Le travail de Sarah Kane se prête assez mal à
l'exercice rhétorique du résumé. En effet, le fond est
difficile à dissocier de la forme. De plus, l'auteur
joue avec la notion de personnage, utilisant parfois
plusieurs voix pour un même personnage, ou plusieurs
personnages en une seule voix. Toutefois, ces résumés
permettent de constituer un repérage factuel des cinq
pièces de la dramaturge.
Blasted
Ian et Cate se retrouvent dans une chambre d'hôtel
à Leeds. Les deux individus ne parviennent pas à
communiquer. Ian est gravement malade et Cate est victime
de crises. Ian abuse d'elle, il la viole. Durant
l'absence de la jeune femme, un soldat entre, révélant
au spectateur une guerre en dehors de la chambre
d'hôtel. Il viole Ian et lui mange les yeux. Cate, quant
à elle revient avec un bébé qui finit par mourir de
faim. Elle laisse ensuite Ian, qui, affamé, mange le
bébé. Ian meurt. Cate revient. Elle mange, nourrit Ian.
Il la remercie.
Phaedra's Love
Hippolyte, le jeune prince, se préserve de toute
émotion. Il passe son temps à manger et à se
masturber, impassible, devant la télévision. Phèdre,
sa belle-mère est amoureuse de lui. Ces deux pôles
opposés mènent à la destruction de la famille. Phèdre
accuse Hippolyte de viol et met fin à ses jours, tandis,
qu'Hippolyte refuse de se défendre et se fait torturer
à mort par des policiers.
Cleansed
Grace veut retrouver son frère Graham, mort. Carl
et Rod s'aiment. Robin tombe amoureux de Grace. Tinker
teste les habitants de son institution. Il leur fait
subir les douleurs les plus extrêmes pour connaître les
limites de leur amour. Les personnages se démembrent
pour se recomposer. Certains habitants finissent par
posséder un morceau de l'identité de quelqu'un d'autre.
Grace devient Graham. Une femme danse dans une cabine de
peep-show. Tinker l'aime.
Crave
A est amoureux de C. Il a abusé de C durant leur
relation. C a eu une enfance difficile et elle est
dépressive. M veut un enfant et aimerait que B lui en
fasse un. B quant à lui, tient à être libre et se sent
enfermé par son amour pour M. Les voix se mêlent pour
exprimer leur souffrance, leur difficulté d'aimer et de
se faire aimer, leur manque d'un autre, et leur
impossibilité de communiquer.
4.48 Psychosis
Une ou plusieurs voix s'élève(nt) pour évoquer
une difficulté de vivre, une thérapie, et une
médication sans fin. Elle(s) ne se supporte(nt) plus
seule(s), ni avec les autres.
