Victory UK premiere The British premiere of Victory will be presented by the Peter Hall Company from 1-25 Aug 2007 at The Theatre Royal Bath. The actors are Richard Johnson (Lionel), Pippa Bennett-Warner (Vicky) and Reece Ritchie (Freddie). The director is Cordelia Monsey. "Vicky was named to celebrate Nelson Mandela’s victorious walk to freedom at the dawn of a new South Africa. Her mother worked happily as Lionel’s maid for seventeen years. Vicky played at Lionel's house as a child as if it was her own home and it was Lionel who encouraged her educational aspirations. So when Lionel- widowed and alone - catches two burglars ransacking his house and finds that one of them is Vicky, it is more than his possessions which are destroyed." New books on Fugard: expected Space, Time and Silence: The Craft of Athol Fugard by Dr. Marianne McDonald. Dr. Marianne McDonald is Professor of Classics and Theatre at the University of California, San Diego. The book is in honour of the playwright's 70th birthday. Sadly this book has not been published.
Tsotsi the film on DVD Fugard's novel Tsotsi has been filmed: "Set amidst the sprawling Johannesburg township of Soweto - where survival is the primary objective - Tsotsi traces six days in the life of a ruthless young gang leader who ends up caring for a baby accidentally kidnapped during a car-jacking." Tsotsi won the Oscar for the best foreign language film. The film is now available on DVD.
Victory world premiere The world premiere of Victory will be in the Market Theatre, South Africa. Victory deals with a troubled country and its people- a world without hope, a world that is overrun by druglords and criminals and people with shattered dreams. It's the first time since 1994 that Fugard is dealing with the reality of this country now. (This will be at The Market in May). It will be directed by Lara Foot Newton, designed by Jaco Bouwer and the actors will be Cobus Rossouw, Ameera Patel and Wayne van Rooyen. Victory premieres at the Klein Karoo National Arts Festival from 5-8 Apr 2007 and then transfers to the Baxter Theatre Centre from 12 Apr- 19 May and The Market Theatre from 21 May- 1 Jul 2007.

South Africa and then a world tour. They recently revived The Island
