Directed by Euzham Palcy (one of the few women directors) of an Andre Brink novel
starring Donald Sutherland and Marlon Brando. Brando so liked the film
he agreed to appear for the minimum acting wage. Injustice in South
Africa as Sutherland the white liberal realises the
realities of apartheid. Mokae is sublime with exceptional acting.
Voodoo and
commerce as an industrial researcher investigates zombies and falls into the
hands of the police headed by Zakes Mokae. 1988. Directed by Wes Craven.
Mokae´s sadistic voodoo policeman is superb. His best horror role.
At an AIDS conference Mokae plays President Nimbala of Equatorial Kuhndu. But the president has a potential coup on his hands. Mokae's role in this episode of The West Wing is highly regarded: "The impact of this episode has not diminished since the first time I watched it- and having known friends die of AIDS in E Africa, and seen the tragic cycles of violence and corruption that compound the problems, it is painfully close to the bone. The conclusion of the episode breaks your heart - but is all too realistic." |
